He is the former executive vice president of the Mystery Writers of America, and his work has been short-listed for both the Shamus and Thriller Awards. Hunsicker is also a screenwriter; his first film, a short crime thriller, debuted at the inaugural Dallas Noir Film Festival in 2022.
